Forget the cheap "reveal" where the lawyer just explains what happened because, well, the reader needs to know and the only people who might know aren't talking. Forget the tacky prose and overwrought descriptions of just about everything. Forget the two-dimensional cartoon characters. What is really offensive is the main character, a totally unrealistic lawyer who betrays his duty to his client, causes his client to be charged with murder, and then lets another character be murdered while he stands there watching for minutes on end. A thoroughly hateful, odious, man. And an awful, awful book. Could never read another about Jake Lassiter.
